A Tour of Winter Olympics 2022

Olympics is an international sports event that features the Summer and Winter Olympics. These games are held every four years with two years gap between them. It means at first summer Olympics are held, and after two years winter Olympics are held.

From the 4th of February,2022, the Winter Olympics, officially called the 24th Winter Olympics Games, are scheduled in Beijing, China. The Motto of this year's Winter Olympic is "Together For a Shared Future."

What are the Winter Olympics Games?

Winter Olympics are a part of the Olympics practiced on snow and ice. The First Winter Olympics Games were in Chamonix, France, in 1924. Greece had inspired us these Olympics Games as in Olympia people held games every four years.

Bidding Process

To schedule Olympics in their cities, all the countries go through a bidding process. IOC(International Olympic Committee) announces a bidding calendar in which countries bids and get the chance to schedule these games in their cities. For the 2022 Winter Olympics, Beijing won by four votes from Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Preparation in China

China is preparing for Winter Olympics in full swing. Beijing announced 26 venues for these games, including training venues. China made three zones for all games.

  • Yanqing Zone
  • Zhangjiakou Zone

Medals and Torch Relay

China designed medals uniquely based on traditional Chinese astronomy and astrology because the games coincide with the Country's New Year Festival. The Torch relay will start on the 2nd of February 2022 and ends on the 4th of February 2022, visiting two cities: Beijing and Zhangjiakou.

Total Ninety-one countries are sending their athletes with coaches and officials. The number of athletes is near about 3000 including, men and women. They all will participate in the different sports described above and try to win medals as much as possible.

Impact of Covid-19 on Winter Olympics

As we all know that covid is spreading in full swing, safety measures are necessary for all the athletes. Covid had much impact on this year's Winter Olympics. That is why China is taking strict precautions for the safety of all athletes.
  • All the athletes and media partners have to quarantine for 21 days and be fully vaccinated.
  • Athletes should go through a daily basis covid test.
  • Masks are necessary to use.

Participation of India

India is one of those ninety-one countries participating in the Winter Olympics. Only one athlete qualifies for Winter Olympics named Arif Khan. He is from Kashmir and participating in Alpine Skiing.

Artificial Snow in Winter Olympics

Beijing is going to use artificial snow in this year's Winter Olympics. The reason behind this is less snowfall rate Zhangjiakou which is in millimeters. A good amount of snow means good Winter Olympics. So, China uses artificial snowflakes in this.
