Guide for Voters About Their Voting Rights - My Vote, My Right

As we all know, this is the time of the election in some states including, our Punjab. There will be some questions in everyone's mind, especially in youngsters. So, here are some tips which can help you very much in making a decision:

Who can caste the vote?

To caste a vote, you should fulfil the following regulations:

1. A citizen of India
2. Has completed 18 years of age as on the qualifying date (1st of January of the year of revision of electoral roll)
3. Has registered as a voter in the current electoral roll of the constituency where s/he ordinarily resides.

How to decide on a Party?

Firstly you should decide to which party you want to vote. For this, think about the relevant party's work. What did they do for you in past years? Are they capable of your vote? For this, do the following things:

1. Ask others about their satisfaction with the party.
2. Check if you are satisfied with them.
3. List the works done by the party.
4. The work done is in your favour.

How to caste vote?

Now the question is about the way of the casting vote. Mainly this question arises when we are new voters. It becomes difficult for us because we don't know the process. But there is nothing to worry about as the process is simple. For this, follow the below steps:

1. Be a registered voter as you can't caste the vote until we have the name on the voting list.
2. Fill out the application form online or offline to register yourself as per guidelines (1st of January of the year of revision of electoral roll).
3. After registering, get your voter ID card. It is much essential while you are casting a vote.
4. On the day of voting, locate your polling booth. Do it a day before as voting starts early.

Why should I vote?

We should vote for the right person at the right place. The reasons for voting are:

1. It is our constitutional right.
2. We live in a democratic country. So we can choose a person who can fulfill our expectations.
3. Every person above 18 years is a registered voter, every vote counts. As every life matters, every vote also matters.

Precautions to be taken:

As we all know, right now is the time of covid new variant named omicron. So, it is in your hand to take all safety measures. Keep in mind some things described below:

1. Use a mask properly while going to vote.
2. Sanitize yourself before and after voting.
3. Use gloves to press the buttons.
4. Don't use bare hands-on face after casting a vote.
